Pregnancy Test Columbia, Maryland
Think you’re pregnant? Columbia Pregnancy Center offers laboratory quality pregnancy testing. These tests check for a hormone called human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) that is produced by the embryo during pregnancy. HCG is a hormone produced by your placenta when you are pregnant. It appears shortly after the embryo attaches to the wall of the uterus. If you are pregnant, this hormone increases very rapidly. If you have a 28 day menstrual cycle, you can detect HCG in your urine 12-15 days after ovulation. The best time to take a test is just after your missed period. Testing sooner can lead to conflicting results.
A positive pregnancy test (including those taken at home) suggests a high probability that you are pregnant. However, the result should be confirmed. Schedule a free and confidential appointment today.
What are the signs you should take a pregnancy test?
If you aren’t sure you need to take a test, or you don’t know what signs to look for, you’re not alone. Early pregnancy symptoms can be hard to detect and easy to misinterpret. That’s why it’s a good idea to take a pregnancy test if you’ve been sexually active and you are noticing any of the following symptoms:
- Late or Missed Period
- Nausea and/or Vomiting
- Frequent Urination
- Spotting or Cramping
- Unexplained Fatigue
- Feeling lightheaded or dizzy
- Food Cravings or Aversions
- Increased Sense of Smell
- Darkening of Nipples
- Sore, Swollen, or Itchy Breasts
These are the most common and well-known pregnancy symptoms.
However, most women experience these symptoms differently, and some may have very few of them at all. That’s why it’s very important for you to schedule a pregnancy test when you experience these symptoms.
PREGNANCY TEST CONFIRMATION
If your test is positive, our staff will determine next steps, such as an ultrasound exam, and the best time to schedule that procedure. An ultrasound can confirm a viable pregnancy and can give an estimate of pregnancy dating. This is valuable information if you’re considering abortion or your pregnancy options. All services are free and confidential.
